18 Days & a Backpack

'The Cali Trip'

From July 8 through 26, 2019, the summer after we graduated high school, my friends — Remi George, Joey Fields, Jalen Greiser — and I traveled by bus from Cincinnati to Chicago, by train from Chicago to San Francisco, by bus and train from San Francisco to Yosemite to the Redwood Forest, then by plane back home to Cincinnati.

The writings in this series are my own original writings taken directly from my journal I wrote in during this trip and have been sequenced with the photos to go in a chronological order.

Maps are original and recolored to show parts we traveled. All color images are taken with my digital camera at the time, Sony A6000 with a Sigma 16mm 1.4 lens. All black and white images are taken with my Pentax P3 film camera and either Ilford HP5 or Kodak Tri-X. The black and white double exposures were taken with the first 24 exposures on the train or in San Fransisco then rerolled into the camera, then double exposed with 24 exposures of Yosemite NP and the Redwood Forest.
